Supervision
"I am at the service of my supervisee and thus at the service of the client"
Clinical supervision is available for counsellors and psychotherapists working in health, education or private settings.
Supervision is also offered to trainees working toward accreditation.
Group supervision is available for groups of three supervisees wishing to share their clinical and supervision insights.
Teams in health and education settings can also access supervision as an ongoing resource to support the staff teams or as a short term intervention to resolve issues.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a "transformational therapy"
Laurel Parnell
First identified and then developed by Francine Shapiro in the 1950s, EMDR is now accepted as a treatment of choice for both minor and major trauma.
It is essentially a therapeutic intervention using bilateral stimulation to facilitate complete processing, in the brain, of incompletely processed and therefore partly understood life events. It seems that the blocking of full understanding is protective, either because we are too imature at the time of the event to fully understand or because to fully process the event would cause untold emotional trauma. EMDR follows a specific protocol and requires the competent trained practitioner to monitor and manage the process sensitively.
EMDR gives clients access to insights and understandings which helps them to overcome fears and to banish harmful beliefs about yourself and change unhelpful behaviour patterns.
Maureen integrates EMDR into her therapeutic work if appropirate and with the client's consent. If your presenting issues would benefit from EMDR your therapist will talk to you about the process and give you literature to read which explains the process in greater depth.
EMDR sessions are normally an hour and a half in duration.
